About Last Mile NYC

The workshop

Stocked for the repairs that keep coming back

A commuter bike wears out differently from a race bike.

Ride the same three miles twice a day through a winter and the same short list of parts wears out. The chain goes first, faster still with a motor pulling on it. The saddle stops being comfortable once the rider sits fully upright. The rear rack starts creaking because it has been carrying two bags rather than one. We hold those parts deep rather than holding a wide range thinly, and we keep the bearing presses, cable cutters and bottom bracket tools alongside them so a rider who wants to do the job at home can buy the part and the tool in one order.
